7. Ponta do Sossego Viewpoint

The Ponta do Sossego Viewpoint is one of the most iconic viewpoints on São Miguel Island. And in the Nordeste area, stunning viewpoints overlooking the sea are a must, don't you think?

Once you've visited the essential spots in Nordeste, such as Poço Azul, Salto da Farinha, or Ribeira dos Caldeirões Natural Park, we recommend heading to the east coast, where you'll find enchanting viewpoints.

If you decide to visit these viewpoints, starting from the south, the first one you'll encounter is the Ponta do Sossego Viewpoint, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the northern coast of São Miguel Island and part of the Nordeste mountains. From here, you can admire Fajã do Araújo, Ponta da Madrugada, and Ponta da Marquesa.

This viewpoint was renovated in 1995, and nowadays, there's a spacious and beautiful garden. Spread across different levels, this 13,000m2 garden boasts many palm trees, flowers, and bushes, some of which are pruned into animal shapes. Additionally, there's a picnic area and a small shop at the entrance.

Once you've soaked in the tranquility of Ponta do Sossego Viewpoint, continue up the east coast, where you can enjoy Vista dos Barcos Viewpoint and Ponta Arnel Viewpoint.
