5. Vista do Rei Viewpoint

The Vista do Rei Viewpoint is one of the most famous viewpoints on São Miguel Island. From this lookout point, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Lagoa das Sete Cidades, the incredible two-colored volcanic caldera that dominates this area of the island.

The Vista do Rei Viewpoint is one of the most visited viewpoints on the island and is ideal for taking photos as you can appreciate the lagoon in its entirety, with its two parts separated by the bridge. In addition to the panoramic view of the lagoon, from the Vista do Rei Viewpoint, you can enjoy spectacular views of the north coast of São Miguel Island, as well as the green fields and hills surrounding the lagoon.

This viewpoint is located on the same road as the Lagoa de Santiago and Cerrado das Freiras viewpoints, although this one is the busiest. In fact, it's a viewpoint often reached by tourist buses and organized tours.

The Vista do Rei Viewpoint is easily accessible by car, and although the parking lot is small, there are some spaces on the road to leave the car without any problem. On peak days, such as August, it's advisable to visit early in the day to avoid crowds.
