8. Milicias Beach and Pópulo Beach

Milícias Beach and Pópulo Beach are two beautiful beaches on São Miguel Island. These beaches are located very close to Ponta Delgada, the capital of the island, making them quite popular among both tourists and locals.

It's common to visit both beaches on the same day since they are very close, just a 10-minute walk along the promenade. Both Praia das Milícias and Praia do Pópulo have dark volcanic sand, which, combined with the green surroundings, creates a beautiful natural environment.

There are nearby restaurants and parking facilities at both beaches. We recommend these beaches, especially for those staying in Ponta Delgada and wanting to spend the last moments of the day relaxing on a beach or watching the sunset. Despite being very accessible beaches, their tranquility, even in high season, is quite surprising.
