5. Ribeira Quente Village and Fogo Beach (Fire Beach)

Ribeira Quente is a small fishing village on the southern coast of São Miguel Island. This picturesque town is home to just over 700 people and boasts another one of São Miguel's natural wonders: Fogo Beach (Fire Beach).

Fogo Beach is the main attraction of Ribeira Quente. It's a cozy beach with dark sand, not very large in size, but what truly sets it apart is its warm water. This is because the beach is situated in a bay where several underwater hydrothermal springs are found. If you've ever taken a dip in the chilly waters of other São Miguel beaches, you'll understand why Fogo Beach is so highly regarded.

Moreover, the town of Ribeira Quente itself is worth a visit for its history and culture. Historically, this municipality has been inhabited by many generations of fishermen, something you'll surely notice upon arrival due to its authentic charm.  Additionally, Ribeira Quente is in a privileged location, perched above a stream and on the edge of a small valley descending from the mountain.

Ribeira Quente is often visited on the same day as other nearby towns like Vila Franca do Campo, Provação, or Faial da Terra, all coastal towns each with their own characteristic charm.
